Classic Car Auctions says:

Rightly regarded as one of VW's best ever drivers' cars.....

  • The much revered Corrado VR6, launched in 1992, was the VW every petrol-head aspired to; with 187bhp, a top speed of 145 mph and a 0-60 mph time of just 6.7 secs, it is now rightly considered a modern-classic
  • The UK-only ‘Storm' was a 1995 run-out special edition, of just 500 examples
  • Available in two colours, Mystic Blue or Classic Green, the Storm featured 15-inch BBS ‘Solitude' alloy wheels, a fully specified cabin with leather upholstery, heated front seats and a handful of red Storm badges
  • One of only 250 cars in Classic Green with a Cream leather interior - arguably the best combination for a Storm - with just 3 former keepers and only 79,533 miles
  • Spending 14 years in dry storage, only to re-emerge in 2018 and be fully recommissioned, including a full bare metal respray, MOT'd until September 2020 issued with no advisories

Remarks

VR' stands for V-Reihenmotor, which translates to V-Inline, the unit is a very narrow-angle V6, displacing 2861cc, with two offset banks of cylinders at 15 degrees to one another. Unlike a conventional V6, but exactly like an inline six, there's just one-cylinder head.  The result is a six-cylinder engine that's both much narrower than a typical V6 and shorter than a straight six. In fact, it's more comparable in size to a four-cylinder than a six, which meant it could slot easily into a Golf floorpan. A creative and borderline ingenious engineering solution.

Good for almost 190bhp and 180lb ft of torque, the VR6 unit could haul the Corrado to 62 mph in a claimed 6.7 seconds, which is more than respectable in 2020 but in 1992 must have seemed very rapid indeed.
